Guangzhou, parting shots
November 17th, 2008 in Guangzhou
I’m writing this at the Baiyun International Airport, my stout German sense of punctuality having delivered me here far earlier than necessary. I’m heading back to Shanghai on an 8am China Southern flight.
It’s dangerous to form opinions about something as big and complex as a city and its residents based on a single weekend, but all and all I really like Guangzhou. The city is tense and crowded, but it has a certain “lived in” feeling that Shanghai sometimes lacks. I described my impression to someone this weekend as “乱 in all the right ways,” and I stand by that assessment. The city seems to have a lot of nervous energy, but I never felt unsafe.
CNBloggerCon was eye-opening and inspiring. I met a lot of incredible, passionate people. I spent most of my time listening and learning, and came away with a new appreciation of and interest in the Chinese blogosphere.
There’s more to write, but it will wait for a proper keyboard and Internet connection. See you in Shanghai.

You got any more photos to post? Would love to see some photos of the area to compare with photos of Shanghai.
